Carbon Footprint
In addition to our involvement in all areas related to building physics, we now offer to quantify the carbon budget associated with construction choices in order to provide an overall view of the relevance of buildings from a sustainability perspective.
This approach allows us to support designers on both new building projects and renovation operations.
On this last point, a significant development in the EPIQR+ application (developed jointly by Estia and Epiqr Rénovation) makes it possible to assess the indirect carbon emissions associated with renovation scenarios.
The software combines its database of building elements and its calculation method with data from official Swiss (KBOB) and European (Ecoinvent, INIES) life cycle assessments in construction.
The EPIQR+ CO2 calculation is based on the definition of the study framework and life cycle assessment method presented in the SIA 2032 technical manual, which is recognised as the benchmark in Switzerland. The study framework thus encompasses the assessment of all renovation elements, including replacements.
The material and energy flows during the construction, replacement and disposal phases of the renovation elements are as close to reality as possible thanks to careful consideration of the construction principles implemented.
